This last week was a rough one on Mommy and Daddy. Mommy had to work a lot of extra hours due to inventory at work, or "Hell Week" as she'd probably refer to it. I didn't get to see her at lunch time as usual, but she tried to make up for it at night. Daddy had inventory too, but since he doesn't work in Accounting, he didn't have quite as much preparation as Mommy did.
Tuesday was yet another round of doctor's appointments. It was also the day that Mommy and Daddy did a little cheer that the house came off the market and they were finally out of their contract with our terrible realtor. And that's just where the fun started.
On Thursday Mommy had another doctor's appointment and so did I. My tubes are still in place, and my hearing is normal in one ear. The other ear still shows some improvement needed, but the doctor said there is nothing to be concerned about there because that test result could be due to me talking all the way through the hearing test and not paying attention.
Thursday night, we came home and had our normal routine of supper, playtime, bath, and nighty night. Mommy and Daddy stayed up watching a little TV and running a load of laundry. About 20 minutes after starting the wash, Mommy's pregnant bladder called out, so she went to oblige. It's a good thing she did. The washing machine had poured gallons upon gallons of water out from underneath, and the bathroom and hallway were completely under water. Mommy yelled for Daddy to come quick and he leaped to the rescue, turning off the washer and running down to check the basement. Oh boy, what a mess did they find. Our basement has some canvas-type sheeting on the ceiling of the partially finished room, and that turned out to be a bit of a blessing in disguise. All around the perimeter of the sheeting, waterfalls were pouring gallons of water down the walls and around the perimeter of the room. Daddy again came to the rescue finding some huge 5 gallon buckets and strategically placing them around the room, and stabbing some holes in the sheeting with his ever-present pocket knife. Mommy had to run across the room through the waterfalls to unplug the power strip that was in the midst of it's own major flood. One waterfall was pouring gallons upon gallons of water right onto this particular power strip, you know, the one that contained the cords for Mommy's computer and her 50 inch big screen TV. And of course the water was pouring right onto this equipment, and also the DVD player and the satellite receiver. Fun stuff. Mommy had to run back to work for a few minutes to finish some last minute items for inventory, but when she got back Daddy was still trying to suck up water in the hallway and Mommy went downstairs to monitor the rapidly filling buckets.
Daddy called the insurance company on Friday and got the claim started. Saturday, State Farm sent over the wonderful people from Serv-Pro to get the house dried out. We have about a half dozen huge fans and two dehumidifiers running in the hallway, bathroom, and basement, and hopefully they will be finished today. The bathroom floor is beyond saving; all the laminate is starting to buckle. The carpet may be salvagable, but Mommy and Daddy are hoping to go ahead and replace it at their own expense if needed due to the fact that it was in such bad shape to start with. What a week, and only a few weeks before my little brother is to arrive. I hope the insurance company works fast for us, because our house is currently in shambles.

Dear Amelia,
ReplyDeleteYou write as beautiful as your mom. :) Thank you for describing everything so well. What I think is the best - is that your mom still sounds wonderful! Do you think she's just a little excited that this is the month your little brother arrives? ;) I just realized - both my son-in-laws, my father-in-law and grandson will all be November birthdays. They are all also talented carpenters - maybe your little brother will have that gift too.
Love,
Grandmommie
